PhoenixFire Designs in the News
PhoenixFire Designs has been in the news lately, having been interviewed by a few reporters about our upcoming launch of the new Handmade At Amazon site.
EcommerceBytes first contacted us about our thoughts on the differences between Etsy and Amazon.
Miss M. Turner said she went through an extensive application to help validate the handcrafted authenticity of her work, and hopes that will give shoppers confidence in purchasing from Handmade at Amazon sellers.
EcommerceBytes also used some of my comments in an additional article.
Turner told EcommerceBytes, “As a regular Amazon buyer myself, I know how easy it is to shop on the site and I really appreciate the attention to detail Amazon has taken so far in ensuring a truly handmade marketplace. In order to even qualify, there was an extensive application requesting very specific details on my process to help validate the handcrafted authenticity of my work. I hope this will help buyers feel confident in purchasing from myself and fellow Handmade at Amazon sellers and reassure them they are getting truly maker created pieces rather than pretty pictures of Made in China items. It is my hope that with the backing of a major site such as Amazon, it will help offer legitimacy to those of us who sell truly handcrafted, artisan made items.”
TheStreet.com also contacted us for some insights and opinions on the Etsy vs. Handmade at Amazon and some thoughts on setting up shop.
The company has also been very detailed in verifying sellers before accepting them to the program, which Turner sees as a positive sign that the company is committed to working only with “true handcrafted makers.” Etsy has been under some criticism for starting to allow sellers to manufacture goods, which worries sellers like Turner.
“This kind of negative publicity hurts truly handcrafted artisan makers like myself and makes people hesitant to shop on Etsy as much,” Turner said. “Who wants to pay handcrafted prices for what is really just pretty pictures of Made In China products? It’s my hope that Amazon will help bring renewed confidence to buyers wanting truly handcrafted items. Amazon has been doing it right so far and has really vetted sellers to ensure they are legitimately makers and not merely marketers.”
